Job Type: Summer Intern

Job role will be 70% water recycling project work and 30% utilities support work. This position will report to South Plant Production Superintendent.

Key Responsibilities Include:

The La Porte Plant treats river water from the Trinity River for use in its polymer operations processes at the site. With the installation of the new production line, the demand for cleaner water at the site has prompted the installation of a reverse osmosis (RO) system at the plant. The installation of this new system provides an opportunity to analyze the water balance and water quality at the site and propose some experiments to test opportunities to recycle water at the site. The proximity of the RO system to the process water supply, wastewater, and cooling water return piping systems and the wastewater treatment plant allows for some opportunities for experimentation. The successful candidate will pick up prior work that has been done and validate changes to the water balance at the site, perform testing on various water streams at the site, and work with the RO system vendor to design experiments to test the feasibility of internal recycling options at the site. Once a possible recycling option is selected, the candidate will work to move from a pilot scale test system, to an analysis of the operating cost and benefit of a scaled up system, and propose the plan to site leadership.

Concurrently with the water investigation project, the successful candidate will support the utilities specialist at the site with day-to-day work to learn what life in an operating plant is like. This may include running investigation and troubleshooting samples on process streams, performing health checks of certain systems, and supporting the digitization of operator rounds in the plant.

  • At least a junior in college
  • Position is available to start mid-May and run through end of August, or later as needed.
