Manager, Sales Compensation will lead the activities of the sales compensation team within Finance and be accountable for all aspects of sales commissions for the Sales organization.  The position will represent the Finance department to ensure all necessary processes and controls are in place to ensure sales associates are paid accurately and timely.  Open to all locations.
  • Improve and monitor process/workflow to ensure efficiency in fulfilling compensation deliverables
  • Develop and maintain all aspects of sales compensation database via data integration from various sources
  • Manage all aspects of sales compensation
    • Ensure all sales associates variable compensation is paid timely and accurately
    • Represent Finance Departments perspective on any cross functional projects, providing necessary insight related to sales compensation and sales performance measurement (in particular any sales comp plan redesign)
    • Provide timely communication with Sales associates in regards to their compensation and facilitate any necessary training as changes occur
    • Manage any vendor relationships that support sales compensation infrastructure
    • Ensure proper integration and strategic alignment with all interfacing departments including Human Resources, Sales Learning & Development, Billing and Pricing
    • Ensure all Sales Comp policies and procedures are updated and communicated to all affected parties in a timely fashion
    • Develop and maintain monthly reporting KPI package for Executive leadership team
  • Improve talent within team through effective hiring and development of new and existing associates.  Provide timely and constructive feedback, assign stretch assignments and encourage proactive thinking
  • Approve necessary monthly accounting entries for commission accrual to book based upon sales organization performance and expected performance for balance of the year
Education & Knowledge:
  • Bachelors degree and 8 years or Masters degree and 5 years of progressive experience in Sales Compensation
Experience / Skills / Abilities:
  • Solid business acumen, understanding of systems and database methods
  • Ability to effectively deal with difficult internal and external clients
  • Extensive knowledge of Valassis systems, policies, procedures and ability to interpret them preferred
  • System conversions experience, project planning
  • General management reporting experience and business measurement a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and executive presence
  • Direct supervisory experience of more than three years
  • Issue resolution that direct reports or staff cant resolve themselves (elevated issues)
  • Explaining reason(s) for compensation payments differing from recipients expectations and doing so in a sensitive manner
  • Providing appropriate assistance and guidance to staff against time constraints
  • Balance productivity/efficiency goals against customer service requirements
  • Required work around for complex issues such as double counts or exceptions in compensation plan or sales structure
