Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Program Manager for Pre-College Programs Enrollment Management Division.

This is a temporary position with multiple openings. Schedule information below:

In residence: June 12 - July 21, Monday-Friday 5pm to 11pm, 7-8am and throughout weekends. Must be able to work late evenings with overnight on-call overnight rotation. Will be given a rotating weeknight off and 1 weekend day off per week. Availability 8am-5pm for short meetings with program staff or communication about students.
Pre-Program: June 5-10, full-time training and pre-program support 8-4:30pm
Post-Program: July 23rd post program move out date, move out of residence halls by 12pm.

Essential Duties:

  • Together with second ResidentialDirector, provide primary supervision of program participants and co-curricular/advance staff outside of course hours, which are generally 8:30am-4:30pm M-F; oversee participant project/assignment work from 5pm-11pm and breakfast from 7:00am-8:00am Monday-Friday for both day and residential participants in approved locations; lead social programming (on and off-campus) for residential participants Monday-Friday evenings and on weekends. During theperiod-of-timeoutside of course hours, manage and lead co-curricular/advance staff to ensure participants are accounted for and are acting in compliance with program guidelines.Help with weekend coverage of small group of students staying overnightSaturday into Sunday. Will rotate every other weekend off.Co-curricular/advance staff will have a 1 - 10 staff to participant ratio.
  • Partner with other ResidentialDirectortoprovide overnight on-call support from 10pm-8am daily throughout program; respond as needed to issues/concerns escalated from co-curricular/advance staff on duty each night; escalate toProgram Manageras appropriate.
  • Supervise day-to-day staff performance of co-curricular/advance staff to ensure compliance with protocols, conduct regular check-ins and provide constructive feedback; conduct daily check-ins withother Resident, and with curricular staff as needed, to report on general activities and issues as well as potential/anticipated concerns.

  • Provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment for program participants; serve as secondary adult in ensuring "2-deep leadership" for interactions with high school students; become fluent in college and program regulations and best practices for high school students attending residential pre-college programs and serve as primary point of contact to interpret policies and practices and determine appropriate response for any participant infractions which may include escalation toProgram Managerand/or other designated personnel.
  • Maintain participant health records (insurance, immunizations, allergies, etc.), parental authorizations, emergency contacts, etc. on location with participants; administer approved medications; serve as primary point of contact in the event of participant medical emergencies; liaise with parents as needed.
  • Oversee and lead participant transition points, including weekend arrival and departure of residential students and their transportation to/from Boston Logan and/or South Station, weekday arrival and departure of commuter participants, weekday movement of residential and commuter students between residential/activity location and classroom location; and possible off-campus trips to designated locations in/near Boston.Work collaboratively withother Resident Directorand co-curricular staff toalways ensure smooth and safe transportation of students.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and at least two years of relevant experience; education beyond high school may count toward experience; some college experience preferred (either through education or employment).

  • At least one season of prior experience in a similar role working with students ages 15-18.
  • Prior experience managing or leading a team is preferred.
  • Experience developing and leading student activities.
  • Effective communication skills, including cross-cultural communication skills, as well as experience or interest in working and programming with diverse populations.
  • Strong work ethic including reliability, timeliness, and professionalism.

  • Work Environment:

  • Shares administrator on-duty functions with one other RD. The RD must live in assigned housing. Frequent and significant evening, late night, and weekend hours are required.
  • May need to go to the scene of student issues wherever they take place on campus. Climbing stairs and walking down hallways in Residence Halls will likely be required to accomplish.
  • RDs are not allowed to have visitors in the residence during the program or have visitors on-campus where program participant activities are taking place.

  • RDs are "on duty" during the dates provided above with scheduled rotating breaks during the days,including 1 vacation day per week that must be pre-arranged with the supervisor to ensure coverage.

  • Bentley University requires references checks and may conduct other pre-employment screening.
