Job Summary:

Responsible for leading projects and facilitating other efforts which drive improvement to both manufacturing and support processes for the organization. These improvements include continuous progression of variable cost productivity (VCP) and optimization of manufacturing operations, using Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and other related tools. The Manufacturing Process Engineer is also responsible for expanding the knowledge and effectiveness of the entire organization by training other team members in world-class manufacturing concepts.

Essential Functions*:

  • Function as a champion in the implementation and maintenance of the business units Lean manufacturing processes
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineers, department managers and operations management to define, develop and implement strategies for continual improvement in all processes of the business with particular focus on eliminating/reducing top quality and scrap/waste issues
  • Work with department leaders to identify projects for continuous improvement events, develop project charters and ensure proper participation and support
  • Use appropriate measurement, analysis and evaluation methods to identify and document process improvements. Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs, Cpk) to monitor plant performance
  • Follow up on continuous improvement events, monitor progress of implementation, ensure timely actions, appropriate management support, and confirm that the intended results are achieved
  • Develop and deliver regular reports of Lean, continuous improvement and variable cost productivity (VCP) activities including accomplishments, participation, projected activities and anticipated needs
  • Participate and champion 5S audits of areas, setup systems to sustain improvements, and transfer ownership to area team leaders
  • Foster a world-class manufacturing culture by leading and facilitating Lean manufacturing trainings, 5S activities, focused Kaizen and other related events
  • Other duties as assigned

Education / Training / Skills / Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology: Mechanical, Electrical preferred
  • APICS CPIM, Lean, Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred
  • At leave five (5) years experience in a manufacturing engineering role
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing concepts, root cause analysis, design of experiments
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing methods, techniques and related equipment
  • Must be able to read and interpret specifications
  • Must be familiar with product construction and applications
  • Must be able to bridge technological know-how with real world operation to ensure successful implementation of solutions
  • Requires the ability to oversee the complete engineering process and identify bottlenecks and issues before they become such that they jeopardize key objectives
  • This position requires that the person be organized, self-motivated, with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations
  • Must be computer literate, particularly in Microsoft Excel, SPC, ERP systems and other production control, production planning, and inventory control applications
  • High level of initiative and strong work ethic
