Manager, Information Technology

Manages day-to-day operations of the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and related platforms for the SOA and Actuarial Foundation, ensuring that the IT services meet the needs of the organizations today and in the future while maintaining fiscal responsibility of the SOAs IT finances and effectively managing business risk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Technology Infrastructure Management (35%)
    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure (including oversight and hands-on duties) across the organization for the following:
      • Technical support for end user workstation hardware and software
      • Procurement of hardware and software
      • Telecommunications services (telephone, voicemail, mobile, video conferencing)
      • Network services (Internet, Local Area Network, VPN, firewall)
      • Enterprise applications and services (email, Finance, file servers)
      • Enterprise device management (laptop and mobile)
      • Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure)
      • Data Center (servers, hypervisors, networking, UPS, HVAC)
      • Security (network, keycards, endpoint protection, patching, email defense)
    • Ensure high availability and 24/7 monitoring of the technology infrastructure
    • Establish and enforce the organizations technology standards and policies
    • Maintain documentation related to the IT infrastructure
  • Help Desk Management and End User Support (25%)
    • Manage the Help Desk ticketing process and on-duty schedule, ensuring that end user requests are accurately documented, addressed in a timely manner, and there is sufficient support coverage between 8am and 5pm every business day and rotating after-hours emergency support
    • Manage the database of information technology assets, ensuring that all hardware and software is accurately tracked, secured, and ensure that the organization is compliant with all software licensing
    • Provide end user technical support on hardware, software, and assigned systems
  • Business Continuity Management (10%)
    • Oversee management of the organizations backup system(s) to ensure critical systems, documents, and data are backed up offsite
    • Ensure organization-wide business continuity plans are in place, tested regularly, and ready
    • Manage execution of disaster recovery exercise(s) for the IT infrastructure and facilitate regular disaster recovery exercises with others in IT for all other IT platforms
    • As a member of the organizations Incident Response Team, coordinate responses to security breaches and necessary mitigation
  • Vendor Management (10%)
    • Lead the evaluation, selection, and performance of third-party service providers and software packages
    • Manage the relationships, services, and contracts with vendors, including outsourced managed service providers
  • Planning and Project Management (10%)
    • Develop short and long-term plans for the IT infrastructure (vision and strategy)
    • Identify and establish goals as part of the organizations annual planning process.
    • Manage complex, large-scale mission critical IT infrastructure projects
    • Create project plans, manage resources, and track project status
    • Provide management with updates on project status
  • Financial Management (5%)
    • Process and track invoices (within approval limits)
    • Provide input to the annual IT budget
    • Ensure best use of the organizations financial resources in accordance with the budget
  • Management and Training (5%)
    • Manage the technology onboarding and training process for new hires
    • Recruit, hire, coach, and retain a team of technology professionals
    • Maintain awareness of trends in technology and adapt the organizations IT strategy accordingly
    • Coordinate staff training on hardware and software
  • Note: This position requires 24-hour on-call support

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered)

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems, Business, or related field is required
  • At least 10 years of experience in the information technology services industry is required, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role
  • Hands-on technical expertise is required
  • Proven project management and quality assurance skills are required

  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to work with sensitive and highly confidential information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people and other departments
  • Knowledge of policy and ability to apply that to unique situations
  • Ability to make objective decisions using sound judgment
  • Deep knowledge of security best practices

WORK ENVIRONMENT (environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Hybrid office environment
  • Data Center (environmentally controlled area between 60 and 65 degrees)
  • Occasional work outside of normal business hours
  • Occasional overnight travel for continuing education or training

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES AND COORDINATION required to perform the functions of this job.

  • This position currently directly supervises the following staff:
    • Senior Systems Administrator
    • Two (2) Systems Administrators
