Job Title: Head Usher

Job Classification: Seasonal & Part Time. IATSE Local 306 Union Membership Required.

Reports To: House Manager & Assistant Director, Rentals & Venue Operations

Scheduling: Varies based on performance schedules and FOH needs. Evenings and weekends are regularly required.

Job Overview:The Head Usher supervises the usher staff, who work as a team in our hospitality-minded environment and assist in our patrons' experience by ensuring a comfortable and safe experience for all. This position requires strong customer service skills and the ability to partner with management to ensure a smooth front-of-house operation for all Mainstage performances and events. The Head Usher works in concert with the House Manager to ensure that all guests have a memorable and positive experience. This person will be a public facing representative of City Center and must demonstrate a passion for supporting a great guest experience while upholding City Center's mission, and our commitment to being an anti-racist organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Enforce all New York City Center policies in collaboration with the House Manager and New York City Center management
  • Attends operations meetings for all performances, special events, and other theater engagements
  • Schedules ushers and substitute ushers for all performances and events
  • Provides ongoing training and supervision of staff on house operations, evacuation procedures and best practices for customer service in accordance with NYCC protocols
  • Tracks usher attendance & timeliness
  • Creates payroll worksheet weekly
  • Uphold the union collective bargaining agreement
  • Assigns daily usher positions and keeps appropriate records
  • Greets, directs, and aids patrons while actively engaging in a courteous and helpful manner
  • Solves customer service issues decisively and elevates to House Manager, when appropriate
  • Assists with seating late arrivals, patrons with mobility issues and mobility equipment, as needed
  • Oversees and maintains uniforms and necessary equipment for the usher team
  • Performs all duties in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment, while maintaining a friendly, professional and calm demeanor


POSITION REQUIREMENTS: This Role Requires:
  • Previous theater usher experience required
  • IATSE Local 306 Membership
  • At least 5 years of experience in a customer service environment
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work as a team player
  • Frequent and extended standing, walking and physically moving throughout the theatre
  • Flexible availability to accommodate events any day of the week and varying schedules; afternoons, evenings, weekend, and some holidays required


To be successful in this role, you will be expected to demonstrate:
  • Strong communication skills and a customer service attitude
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment as part of a larger team
  • Knowledge of foreign language(s) is a plus but not required


As a valued member of the City Center team you will receive:
  • Pay rate of $749.62 for each performance-week plus a $200 weekly premium
