We are looking for an experienced Direct Category Manager to develop and implement supplier and category sourcing strategies in a regional setting while actively managing and enhancing key supplier relationships. The ideal candidate will be able to mitigate overall business risk, drive process standardization, and support financial transparency while actively working with internal stakeholders and interacting with executive management. Data analytics regarding the industry, supplier categorization & consolidation, and spend analysis are necessary and a key enabler for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Direct category management of initially $15M of spend, with the expectation to grow significantly in the short-term, and which includes the creation and driving (partnering with cross-functional stakeholders where applicable) of long-term category strategies designed to fulfill enterprise-wide requirements and achieve maximum life-cycle value.
  • Follow environmentally- and ethically-sound procurement practices of contracted goods and services which includes compliance with corporate and departmental policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.
  • Cost optimization through management, analysis and communication of relevant financial controls.
  • Conduct and communicate category-based spend analysis, identify future cost savings pipeline and implement savings initiatives.
  • Supplier management by determining and developing sources of supply, maintaining cooperative working relationships and staying current with trends in technologies, products and services.
  • Prepare RFP/bid documents, analyze proposals based on predefined criteria, facilitate supplier award process, and conduct and communicate results of Supplier Business Reviews including corresponding action plans.
  • Contract management by driving contract creation, reviews and renewals, developing strategy for alignment and consistency to drive cost synergies.


Qualifications

Special knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Proven ability to model disciplined execution following detailed standard work, maintaining a high level of attention to detail, driving efficiency, productivity and personal accountability.
  • Demonstrated innovative and technological mindset to ensure master data integrity and accuracy, seek out latest industry trends, road-map future technology and champion early adoption.
  • Sound ability to make data driven and analytical decisions by identifying trends and opportunities, making problems visible and utilizing financial acumen to justify investments and influence decisions.
  • Proven success in challenging the status quo to drive continuous improvement promoting the use of root cause problem solving, valuing new ideas, inspiring others, and demonstrating effective use of change management principles.
  • Proven success in building partnerships, influencing others, and communicating effectively both in verbal and written form, seeking diverse perspectives, and strong emotional intelligence to enable cross functional collaboration.
  • Travel 5% - 10% domestically

Education and experience required:

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business or related discipline.
  • This position is available at two different career levels based upon experience, education, etc.:
    • Level one: 5+ years sourcing or procurement experience
    • Level two: 7+ years sourcing or procurement experience

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • MBA or background in engineering or engineering related field
  • ASCM: CSCP or ISM: CIPS/CPSM Certification
  • Experience using SAP
  • Experience using spend management solutions
  • Advanced skills with Excel
  • Level I: Experience with supplier relationship management, strategic development, negotiation, and contracting
  • Level II: All above plus demonstrated experience with category-based sourcing, development and implementation
