Caf Team Leader - Maritime Campus

Primary Function: The Team Leader is responsible for the oversight or delegation of responsibilities within the food service operation such as inventory, customer service, food preparation, and food safety and sanitation procedures when filling in for the Caf Leader or as needed.. Essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary by San Jacinto College cafe locations based on duties assigned by your Caf Site Leaders requirements and business needs.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Supports Caf Leader and performs management duties when leader is absent or out of office. This includes the Maritime, Central, North and South campuses.
  • Works a register during breakfast when needed and lunch daily.
  • Manages inventories and stock, including keeping detailed records of inventory use and sales, and advising leader on ordering where necessary
  • Provides encouragement to team members, including communicating team goals and identifying areas for new training or skill checks
  • Assists management with hiring processes and new team member training
  • Answers team member questions, helps with team member problems, and oversees team member work for quality and guideline compliance
  • Communicates deadlines and sales goals to team members
  • Develops strategies to promote team member adherence to company regulations and performance goals Conducts team meetings to update members on best practices and continuing expectations.

  • Generates and shares comprehensive and detailed reports about team performance, mission-related objectives, and deadlines
  • Provides quality customer service, including interacting with customers, answering customer enquiries, and effectively handling customer complaints

Additional Job Functions:
  • Communicates with leaders and customers.
  • Troubleshoots problems with Point of Sale (POS).
  • Operates caf in accordance with statutory, College and department's policies and procedures; ensuring proper documentation is on site for inspections and audits.
  • Other duties as assigned, to include but not limited to Concessions and Chamber events at North Cafe.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Basic computer skills, proper use of all kitchen equipment, proper kitchen safety and sanitation procedures, basic organizational skills, basic money handling skills, general kitchen operations skills, ability to use catering guide to book events, ability to train employees, ability to effectively schedule staff accordingly, ability to set production levels for various events, ability to use proper purchasing and receiving techniques, ability to take inventory, ability to lift 50 lbs.

Education and Experience:
  • The successful candidate must have food management or restaurant experience with a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience and 3 years restaurant experience. Qualified candidate must be flexible with scheduling, follow oral and written instructions, have previous customer service experience and understand the necessity of sanitation in food service and the applicable laws and guidelines.

Required Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Experience:
  • 1 years restaurant experience and 1 year supervisory experience

Preferred Experience:
  • 1 years restaurant experience and 1 years supervisory experience

Required Licenses/Certifications:
  • Serv-Safe Certificate

Work Environment:
  • Exposure to commercial restaurant equipment operation at high temperatures above 500 degrees and low temperatures below 0 degrees.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous cleaning and sanitizing chemical and cleaning solutions.

Physical Activity:
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds of product
  • Standing on your feet for long periods of time - minimum 15 minute break for every 4 hours worked.
